Motion Mami
Celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture and empowering voices of color through motion graphics and animation.
We are content creators. Animated shorts, music videos, explainer videos, how-to’s, gifs, bold colors and rooted influences.
The mission for the brand is to share stories that amplify stifled voices, empower women of color, and flood the male-dominated motion design industry.
Getting Started
It started as a motion design project and a hashtag #motionmami. We used the hashtag and saw the opportunity to make it a brand. We searched up the instagram handle and it was available. Immediately we grabbed it and began uploading content.
Quickly we gained attention and realized we were tapping into an unmet market in the motion design industry. We used frame by frame animation, bold colors and afro-influenced patterns to create animated shorts that tapped into Caribbean culture. Since then we’ve worked with a curated selection of clients that align with our mission and share our vision.
The Landscape
Motion design is all around us. Theres a screen in everyone’s home and a screen in everyone’s pocket. The shows you love, the commercials you skip, and the apps you use all have motion design. The total value of global animation industry was US $254 billion in 2017 and is projected to reach US $270 billion by 2020, according to Research and Markets.
The traditional form of content viewership is giving way to a sharp increase in streaming video consumption. The size of streaming market for animation content was US$ 2.4 Billion in 2017 and is growing at an annual rate of 8%. Global consumers are displaying a growing appetite for visual experiences and brands are listening.
